What we often hear in consultations

Breast implants differ in gel cohesiveness and elasticity, surface structure, size and projection, so they also differ in how they feel and how well they hold their shape. Bounce is one of several implants with different characteristics. Rather than choosing it just because it is new or because it feels soft, it is important to consider your skin and breast tissue thickness, chest wall shape, and the volume and feel you want. Even with the same implant, the feel and shape after surgery can differ from person to person, because the thickness of the skin, fat and breast tissue covering the implant, the placement plane and the capsule that forms after surgery all play a part.

What kind of implant is Bounce?

Bounce is a breast implant filled with cohesive silicone gel, available in a range of sizes, projections and surface options.

Cohesive gel is not a free-flowing liquid; it is a silicone gel that holds together internally.

Not every cohesive gel implant feels the same, however. Depending on gel cohesiveness and elasticity, fill level and shell characteristics, an implant may spread softly when pressed or spring back with a firmer, more elastic feel.

So when comparing breast implants, it helps to look beyond the fact that they are all silicone and consider how each gel feels and holds its shape.

Why does each implant feel different?

Differences in feel come from the cohesiveness and elasticity of the gel and the characteristics of the shell.

Some implants move softly and feel squishy when pressed, while others feel elastic and firmly hold their shape. Less cohesive gel tends to feel softer in motion, while more cohesive gel tends to keep its shape more noticeably.

However, how an implant feels in your hand is not the same as how the breast feels after surgery.

Once placed, the implant is covered by your own breast tissue, fat and skin, so the final feel is a combination of the implant's properties and your tissue.

How do Mentor, Motiva, Sebbin and Bounce compare in feel?

Because the gel differs between products, softness and elasticity in the hand can differ too. Broadly, Mentor and Bounce feel relatively soft and supple, while Motiva and Sebbin feel relatively elastic and firm.

ImplantHow it may feel when compared by hand
MentorRelatively soft and supple
MotivaElastic, with some spring
SebbinRelatively firm and elastic
BounceRelatively soft and supple

This does not mean one implant is better than another. Some people prefer a soft, mobile feel, while others want a slightly firmer feel with more shape. After surgery, skin and fat thickness are added on top, so the product's own feel cannot predict the final result.

A meta-analysis of 13 studies (5,440 patients) comparing implant surfaces found less capsular contracture with textured than with smooth surfaces (OR 0.26).[1]

How is the implant surface related to feel?

The implant surface is one of the factors that affects how the implant interacts with surrounding tissue. Once an implant is inside the body, the body naturally forms a thin capsule around it, as it does with any foreign object.

Implants differ in surface smoothness and micro-structure, and these differences can influence how the implant interacts with the tissue around it.

Even so, no surface can be said to prevent a capsule from forming or to rule out capsular contracture. Surface texture is one of several factors to check when choosing an implant, and it does not decide the feel or result on its own.

A systematic review of 6 randomized trials (235 patients) also found less capsular contracture with textured surfaces at 1 and 3 years after surgery.[2]

Does a capsule make the breast feel hard?

A capsule forming around the implant is a normal biological response. The problem arises when the capsule becomes too thick or contracts and squeezes the implant tightly. This is called capsular contracture.

As capsular contracture progresses, the breast may feel harder than before or change shape, and in severe cases it can be painful.

So the feel after breast augmentation is not just about how soft the implant is. It is a combination of the implant's own feel + skin and fat thickness + breast tissue + capsule condition + placement plane.

Is a softer implant always better?

A softer implant is not automatically a better one. Softer gel implants may move more naturally when pressed, while more cohesive, elastic implants tend to hold their shape more.

Which suits you depends on your body type and tissue condition.

Especially when breast tissue and subcutaneous fat are thin, you also need to consider how visible the implant edge or rippling may be.

That is why it is important to check the following together:

Desired breast size and shape

Skin and fat thickness

Amount of existing breast tissue

Chest wall width and shape

Implant width and projection

Gel cohesiveness and feel

Implant placement plane

In the end, the goal is not to find the softest implant but the one whose characteristics fit your tissue and the shape you want.

How do I choose the right implant for me?

Rather than picking a product first, it is important to assess your current breast structure and tissue. During consultation, we check skin and soft tissue thickness, the amount of existing breast tissue, chest wall width and left–right asymmetry.

For example, the same implant size and type will not work the same way for someone with thin skin and breast tissue as for someone with ample breast tissue. The criteria also change depending on whether you want a breast that spreads naturally or more upper-pole volume and definition. So before asking "which brand?", you need to work out how much width, volume and elasticity your breast needs.

Why can't the brand alone predict the result?

The shape and feel after breast augmentation are not decided by the implant brand alone. Even with the same implant, the result can differ depending on the placement plane and pocket, the amount of existing breast tissue and skin elasticity.

Minimizing tissue damage and bleeding during surgery and creating the right pocket for the implant also matter. After surgery, the capsule and the healing process can affect the feel as well. So choosing a new implant or a particular brand does not automatically give you the feel and shape you want. It is important to plan the right size and placement method based on both the implant's characteristics and your own tissue.

Bounce implants: common myths and facts

What many people think…What the evidence shows
"A softer implant is always better."The softer the implant, the more visible rippling or show-through can be, so tissue thickness must be considered too.
"A rough, textured surface means more side effects."In studies, textured surfaces had less capsular contracture, but other risks are reviewed as well.
"You can predict the result from the brand."Results depend on placement plane, size and tissue condition together.
💡 From the consultation room — Dr. Park Seong-Soo

When patients compare implant feel, I tell them that touching an implant in your hand is different from how it feels inside the body. Thicker covering tissue reduces the difference; thinner tissue makes it larger.

In short

Breast implants differ in gel cohesiveness and elasticity, surface structure, size and projection, so they also differ in how they feel and hold their shape.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Are Bounce implants softer than other implants?

When the products themselves are compared, Bounce may feel relatively soft and supple. However, the feel after surgery depends on skin and fat thickness, existing breast tissue and the capsule.

Which is better, Bounce or Motiva?

It is hard to rank them simply. Each product differs in gel elasticity and cohesiveness, size and profile, and surface, so the right choice depends on your breast structure and the result you want.

Can I just touch the implants and choose?

Touching implants helps you understand how softness and elasticity differ. But an implant feels different in your hand than inside the body, so it is better to decide together with an assessment of your tissue rather than by touch alone.

Does a softer implant look more natural?

Not necessarily. Skin and fat thickness, existing breast tissue, implant size and placement all play a part along with softness. So "soft = natural" is too simple a rule.

Do breast implants last a lifetime?

Breast implants are not medical devices guaranteed to last a lifetime. Over time, changes such as rupture or capsular contracture can occur, so regular check-ups are needed after surgery depending on your condition.
