What is implant breast augmentation?

Implant breast augmentation is a surgical procedure in which a silicone gel–filled implant1 is placed beneath the mammary gland or pectoralis major to enlarge the breast. The primary clinical objective is to "reshape a small or ptotic breast into a natural, aesthetically pleasing form using an implant and size matched to the patient's anatomy." Its principal advantages are the longest clinical dataset and highly predictable outcomes.

Three incision approaches compared

QIs it true that nipple sensation decreases after implant surgery?
Placement of the implant may stimulate the surrounding nerves on the lateral and medial aspects of the breast, resulting in transient hypersensitivity or reduced sensation. This is actually a normal indicator of nerve recovery. Over 6 to 12 months, sensation typically fluctuates and gradually returns to baseline. Rarely, persistent hyposensitivity may occur; careful dissection and minimization of tissue trauma by an experienced surgeon reduces this risk.
QDoes implant surgery cause the breast to sag more?
Implant surgery alone does not accelerate breast sagging. Age-related loss of skin elasticity may still cause some ptosis over time, so post-operative moisturization and gentle-support undergarments such as a bralette are recommended.
